While I was researching for my Korea trip, this item caught my attention and successfully made it to my shopping list.

It is a mascara from the roadshop brand Innisfree. (which has almost become a tourist attraction for girls lol.) What makes this mascara different from the rest is none others but the skinny applicator and (I believed) that is why it was named Skinny Microcara. There are a total of five variance in this series which are:

• Skinny Microcara, 3.5g -- RM45.65
• Skinny Waterproof Microcara, 4g -- RM50.21
• Skinny Volumecara, 3.5g -- RM45.65
• Skinny Fixercara, 3.5g -- RM31.95
• Skinny Longlongcara, 3.5g -- RM45.65

(Price is correct as of 11.Jul.2017, in Malaysian Ringgit and is inclusive of GST.)


The following claims about this product were extracted from the Innisfree official website:

1. Coating every last hidden lash:
A 2.5mm-diameter micro brush inspired by an interdental brush motif coats even the shortest lashes as well as both the upper and lower lashes leave you with your beautiful, natural eye makeup.

2. Your lashes glamorously curled up without concern of them drooping!
The micro brush completely curls even every hidden lash from roots to top to maintain your lash look all day.

3. For a healthy, natural lash look:
Lightweight airlight powder creates a natural long lash look as if you don't apply eye make-up, and various botanical extracts refresh your eyes.






The first thing that came to my mind when I took the applicator out of the tube was, "Wow this is REALLY skinny!"

The wand has very short bristle running around it and the diameter of the wand (inclusive of bristle) is only freaking 2.5mm.

As with most mascaras, there will be excessive product picked up by the tip hence remember to remove them before applying it to the lashes.

Now let's see how this mascara applies.






You can tell how skinny the wand is in relation to my average-size eye.






For upper lashes, I had them curled first then applied a couple of coats of the mascara trying to find out how it performs in terms of lengthening/thickening/volumizing but ended up with only clumpy lashes. :(

The formula is on the wet side but it did not adhere to the lashes as easily as other mascaras did. Probably due to the fact that shorter bristles have lesser contact surface with the lashes? In addition, the more you apply, the easier the lashes clump together, and weigh down the curled lashes.

On the other hand, I think this mascara does a good job in slightly thickening up my lower lashes, making them more visible. It took multiple coats too but I experienced no big issues with clumping.

I had tried a couple of times and my lashes always ended up looking like this.

So, did this product do what it claims?

Claim 1: Coating every last hidden lash: 
A 2.5mm-diameter micro brush inspired by an interdental brush motif coats even the shortest lashes as well as both the upper and lower lashes leave you with your beautiful, natural eye makeup. 

Answer:  
Yes. The skinny wand allows precise application to even very short lashes from roots to tip, without smudging onto upper/lower eyelid. In my opinion this product is especially great for the lower lashes. It is also true that this product will 'leave you with natural eye makeup' because it can be difficult to create dramatic lashes with it.


2. Your lashes glamorously curled up without concern of them drooping!
The micro brush completely curls even every hidden lash from roots to top to maintain your lash look all day.

Answer:
No. I was unable to curl my upper lashes with just this mascara and it weighs down my lashes after a while. The curl did stay a little longer when less product had been applied but in such case my lashes looked almost bare. That said, these situations may not apply to most people as not many mascara hold my curl all day long.


3. For a healthy, natural lash look:
Lightweight airlight powder creates a natural long lash look as if you don't apply eye make-up, and various botanical extracts refresh your eyes.

Answer:
Yes and No. Yes it is light weight but I do not think it is able to create natural long lash look for people with short and sparse eye lashes.

If you have long lashes, you may be able to achieve a 'my-lashes-but-better' look with careful application.



Here are the pros and cons of this product:

Pros:
1. It comes in a short, slim tube which is great for traveling/small makeup bag.
2. The skinny brush/applicator enables precise application to even the root of short, hard-to-reach lashes especially those around the corners of eyes.
3. Light weight formula that creates natural lashes suitable for daily makeup look.
4. It can be easily removed by rinsing with lukewarm water.

Cons:
1. Very minimal lengthening/volumizing/thickening effect. To achieve more significant result, multiple coats are needed but it will easily result in clumpy (upper) lashes.
2. Not waterproof but this can be solved by getting the waterproof version.
3. It does not dissolve completey in makeup remover hence it comes off as black crumbs on the cotton pad and around the eyes, which can be a little messy to clean.



To conclude, I do like this for my lower lashes as it applies like a breeze. It is not a terrible product but I think there are many better alternatives out there that gives better results.
